appearance:
Ryder isn't really concerned with her appearance because she is more worried about her life and survival. But the young woman has a natural beauty and grace that doesn't seem like it would do well in the Riskers. Don't let that fool you however. She is a pretty girl, and she does hold herself rather elegantly for the profession that she's involved in. Her long brunette hair is highlighted with natural blonde streaks that show more often in the summertime than any other time, and her tan skin shows that she's more of an outdoors kind of girl, even though she can't go out as often as she used to. Her hair is naturally wavy, and she doesn't usually waste her time with straightening it or styling it really. She makes she it's presentable, but she wears it back or up more often than not. She just can't be worried about it getting in her way or anything like that. Her eyes are a warm caramel color with flecks of sapphire and sky blue mixed within, giving her a different look. They'll appear more blue one day depending on her mood, or what she's wearing.
She has soft features and kind eyes unless something or someone really gets her angry. And when she's angry, her cheeks will flush and her brow will furrow, which makes it obvious that she's not happy. But more often than not she's in a good mood, so she keeps the rather stoic expression on her face. For clothes, Ryder wears whatever she can find. She goes along on the raiding missions, as well as on her own to find clothes that she can fit into. She's known for the color black, but has been straying away from it because she can't find it any longer. She doesn't want to lose the black clothes she has, or ruin them, so she only wears them when she's out for a mission or doing something that requires her to really blend in. Other than that, she wears dark colors outside, and usually pants and a long sleeved shirt. Inside the home of the Riskers, she wears whatever she wants. Shorts, tee shirts, tanks, sweatshirts...anything that she feels comfortable in. She doesn't have any dressy clothes because there's no need for them any longer. She only has what she needs.
personality: Ryder isn't very difficult when it comes to her emotions. She's straightforward and to the point, and never dances around the subject. She's the kind of girl that will say what she's thinking and say what she really thinks of someone. Because of that, many think she's a bit of a well, you know, but she doesn't see it as that way. She sees it as being honest, and if everyone else is too afraid to be that way, then that's their fault, and they shouldn't label her with a name because of how she is. Ryder is just a very stubborn young woman who speaks her mind and tells you how it is. She's not going to sugar coat anything, especially in these times. Because of her hard inner emotions, she's a very strong person. She can take a lot of crap from people because she'll give it right back, or take it in silence. She's a punching bag for many because she simply can handle that. She doesn't mind if someone needs to vent and yell at someone to make themselves feel better. That's why she's here...to help her friends and her small family.
She's defiant and stubborn, and has her own opinions and thoughts about things, and she will make them known. She tells people how she feels and what she thinks should be done, and doesn't take lightly to the fact that some people might not like her ideas. Ryder is an asset to the Riskers because she's not afraid to take chances. When the guys tell her she can't do something, she wants to do it all the more, and will do it. She'll go in and bait the infected, and she'll do things where the bigger guys can't get into the smaller spaces. She doesn't have any fear when it comes to that sort of thing, and that much is obvious. But Ryder can get very angry, and it's difficult for her to control that anger. She's a bit scary when that happens, so many just steer clear of her for a while until she calms down. She hates arrogance and pompous people, and will make sure they know that. She's rather down to earth most of the time, and she can have her friendly moments. She's just outspoken and has a lot of spirit. She's actually very easy to talk to, and she's there for anyone no matter what they need. She's a good person with a lot of inner issues, but they are slowly being taken care of.

history: Ryder Pheonix Stevens was born on a stormy May morning. The baby was one month early, and she had to remain in the hospital for another month so that the doctors and nurses could monitor her health. They only did that because she was so tiny, and she didn't seem like much of a fighter at first. But the young baby girl surprised them all by pulling through, despite the many sicknesses she experienced during her one month stay at the hospital. Her parents were a mess during that time, and Rosalie almost sank into a depression because she thought they were going to lose their first born, their first daughter. Will remained strong from them both, and soon enough they were optimistic when she pulled through her worst illness. After what seemed like too long, they were finally able to bring their baby girl home. Ryder settled in without much of an issue, except for the fact that she cried without stopping. The parents that had had a quiet month of worry were now having sleepless nights and days. She was healthy alright, but they wished that she slept more than she did.
Soon enough, Ryder had given herself a hernia from crying so much, and had to be hospitalized once more so that the doctors could fix her. It didn't take long, and she was home again, but this time with less crying. It seemed that the baby girl had learned her first lesson, and she cried a lot less often. Rosalie and Will were more than grateful, because they were now sleeping through the nights. As time went on, Ryder grew into a young girl who was now attending school. She exceled in her studies and showed an early intelligence that many didn't possess. She was capable of doing work that was two grades above her, and she soon skipped the third grade, and ended up in the fifth. She did even better in the fifth grade, but her parents didn't allow her to skip ahead until she was a freshman in high school. They had her skip the eighth grade so that she could be in ninth, because they wanted her to go through all four years of high school. Before that however, her parents tried again for a second child, and had a beautiful baby boy by the name of Charles Keagan Stevens. Ryder loved her baby brother Charlie, and as he grew, the two got even closer despite the age difference. She was five years older than him, but she made sure that nothing happened to him at all. As time went by, the brother and sister got even closer, and started doing almost everything together. They loved one another, and that much was obvious. Ryder watched out for her brother, and made sure that nothing would happen to him. They never went to the same school, but whenever Ryder went to pick him up or something, she made sure that everything was going well, and if not, she would go and do something about it, despite her little brother's horror.
The family was perfect in everyone's eyes, and Ryder couldn't be happier. But unfortunately that would be ruined by the thing that ruined everyone's lives. The infection and the virus had started spreading when Ryder reached her junior year of high school. The young woman made it out with her brother and her mother because their father had gotten them out and into the safe place. He didn't make himself however, and he was taken in with the infected people of the city. Ryder never saw him again, and still hasn't to this day. She worries about him constantly, and it's a subject that is very hard for her to talk about. She's a runner and part of the Riskers, and they are a sworn enemy of the Infected. She doesn't want to have to kill her father in all honesty. But one day when her and her mother and brother were in the safe house, something horrible happened. The small area that they were in was breached, and her mother was killed with the first entry of an infected. Ryder lost her brother in the chaos and panic that ensued, but she was able to get out because of one of the older Riskers. They took her and didn't let her go, and finally they ended up where she is now. Ever since that day she's been searching for her brother, and mourning her mother. Ever since that day she has thrown herself into her training, and ever since that day, she has had a personal vendetta against the infected ones.
sample post: The young woman was trying her best to distract herself from the fact that she didn't have any control over her children. She couldn't see them whenever she wanted, and she couldn't be the mother that they so desperately needed. She only have them in the mornings before they went to their training, and then in the evenings. They were tired and exhausted by then, so Owen usually ended up putting them to bed even though she didn't want to. She wanted to stay with Caitlin and Willace as much as possible, but that wasn't going to happen. She missed them more than anything, and today it really seemed to be getting to her. Caitlin had been alright with leaving her this morning, but Willace had held on as if his life depended on it. He had refused to let go of his mother's neck, and Owen had her heart broken over the entire situation.
She hadn't wanted the vampires to hurt him though, so she had gently coaxed his arms from around her neck, and told him that she would see him later. And then he could have the biggest bowl of icecream, and she had to promise that she'd spend the night with him. Caitlin had been understanding for a two year old, and held her brother's hand when he finally released Owen. But the young mother had turned from her children when they were led off and couldn't help but cry. She hated that they had to be taken away from her, and she couldn't go and see them throughout the day. She couldn't be a mother to them if she could never see them, and that bothered her more than anything. It was like they weren't going to be her children for much longer. As she came to that realization, the young woman felt her eyes welling up with tears. Swallowing past the lump in her burning throat, she continued scrubbing harder and harder at the stain on the dark table, trying her best to get it clean. She wouldn't cry. She refused to cry because she had to be strong for Willace and for Caitlin. She knew that they had probably seen their father today because he demanded it, but Owen could never be like that. Even though she was strong when it came to standing up to herself in intense situations, she could never find her voice amongst a big crowd of vampires. And they knew that. Soon enough however, she wasn't going to be able to take it any longer, and she'd fight when her children were being taken away.
She moved along the length of the table as she cleaned it, and was disgusted. The ones who ate it were absolutely dirty, and didn't have a concern about who had to clean it up. Owen was revolted as she saw the leftovers of something with meat, and had to do her best to keep herself from gagging as she tossed it in the trash. Shaking her head, she ran the back of her hand over her forehead, and then continued with the scrubbing, but more violently then the last time. She kept going until she was suddenly aware of a hand covering her own, and an arm going around her waist. She immediately tensed out of surprise and slight fear, for she didn't want to do her real job today. There was no possible way that she could even think about that right now, and she felt herself trying to twist out of the grip. But then the warm words filled her mind and her heart, and she relaxed into him, knowing that he would support her. Markus. Sometimes she felt like he was a mind reader, for she had been wishing and willing to see him, to talk to him today more than anything. As he questioned her, Owen remained facing away from him for a moment, trying to regain her composure. It wasn't really working too well. As she finally turned to face him, her eyes were brimming with tears even though she was trying to be strong, but she held his eyes with her own expressive ones. "I don't know. This was what I was given, so I just came here." She finally admitted.
After a moment of trying her best to keep from crying, she felt the tears escaped. Owen had always been a quiet cryer, so it wasn't a surprise that he couldn't hear her sob. But her breath caught in her throat, and she found the tears coming faster than ever before. She didn't know how much longer she could take all of this. She didn't know how much longer she could watch her children taken from her every morning, and returned late at night, more tired than she had ever seen them. "Markus, I can't do this anymore. I can't stand by and watch Willace and Caitlin taken from me. I can't work around this place while wondering what they're doing to them, without knowing if they're okay." She finished as honestly as possible. He would understand because he always did. He had been through this so many more times than she had been, and maybe that's why he always seemed to keep his composure. But Owen was knew at this, and she didn't know what to think at the moment. Bringing her hand up, she wiped her eyes for a moment, trying to be strong. She knew she was lucky to have Markus, but she shouldn't be crying in front of him. Owen could never get past how handsome he truly was, so as she gazed into his eyes, she wondered how she had been lucky enough to have his children. It wasn't just physical attraction either. It was emotional and everything else. She didn't know what to do with herself anymore.
